Beyonce Belts National Anthem At Super Bowl
Decked out in all-white everything, Beyoncé took on all the critics and haters onstage in New Orleans on Thursday (January 31). She not only opened up about this Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime performance, but sent a clear message about her talents.
Before she even took one single question, she belted out the national anthem, and finally addressed the speculation that she didn’t sing it live at President Obama’s inauguration last week, owning up to the chatter that she sang with a pre-recorded track at last week’s inauguration.
“Well, I am a perfectionist and one thing about me: I practice until my feet bleed. I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra,” she told the room of reporters. “It was a live television show and one of my proudest moments. Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking the risk. I wanted to make [Obama] and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track and I’m very proud of my performance.”
She later addressed the controversy, noting that she “absolutely” intends to sing live on Sunday. “Typically they have you sing a pre-recorded track ’cause anything could wrong,” she said of last Monday’s performance. “So I did sing along with the pre-recorded track … I always sing live. The inauguration was unfortunately a time where I could not rehearse with the orchestra, actually because I was practicing for the Super Bowl, so it was always the plan.”And, she reiterated a number of times that “I will absolutely be singing live [on Sunday]. I am well-rehearsed and I will be singing live. This is what I was born to do.” She added, “Like I said I’ve had a 16-year career and all of the things that I’ve done has prepared me for this. So I’m ready. I love haters. No shame, no hate.”
While she was open to discussing the lip-synch scandal, she decided to play coy when it came to divulging any details about Sunday’s big show. With so many rumors floating around about what she might play at the show, she explained, “That was the hardest thing. I have so many songs and trying to condense a career into 12 minutes is not easy.”
She was equally tight-lipped about the Destiny’s Child reunion rumors. “I can’t really give you any details. I’m sorry,” she said. “Well we just had a new release and we did a new song. It was so exciting to hear us together again. I felt like a little teenager again when I heard us harmonize. It’s always such a pleasure to be around them professionally and personally.”
She also wouldn’t share which team she’s rooting for, instead noting that she’s been hard at work for this performance for months. “It is nerve-racking and it is something that we have been preparing for four or five months,” she said. “So, of course, I’m nervous and I think when I was driving up I just got chills. It’s where my family is from, so it really makes me emotional. It’s the one thing when I’m no longer here, it’s what they’re going to show. I’m so honored when I got into the Superdome, I took my shoes off and I planted my feet in the ground and I just ran. I’m so, so, so happy right now in my life.”
It was also announced her “Dream Girls” co-star Jennifer Hudson would perform “America the Beautiful” with the Sandy Hook Elementary choir. It was already announced that Alicia Keys will perform the national anthem.
There was one more surprise for her fans. She shared that after her Super Bowl performance she’d have some announcements for her BeyHive, including her tour plans. “This has been an aspiration for me,” Beyoncé said of her own performance this Sunday. “I just thank God that I’m given this opportunity.”
Consequence has made no secret of his disdain for Kanye West and the G.O.O.D. Music team over the past couple years, but last week he really took it above and beyond, lashing out at ‘Ye and crew in a scathing radio interview.
Pusha T fired back on Twitter, but he tells MTV News that he has no personal beef with Cons; he just thinks that the Queens rapper speaks a bit too loosely sometimes.
After airing out some details about Kanye and Kim Kardashian’s early hook ups and griping that he didn’t receive a phone call or present from the couple when his own son was born, Cons moved onto the rest of G.O.O.D. Music, taking shots at Big Sean and accusing Pusha T of stealing his style.
Ever outspoken, Pusha shot back at Consequence, referencing his overbite and hinting that Yeezy paid for it. “Confucius says if a man purchased the very teeth u have in your mouth, u should NEVER speak ill of that man…,” he wrote.
Still, Pusha maintains that there’s no deep rift between himself and the former G.O.O.D. Music signee. “It’s nothing really personal with me, at all,” he said, adding that it’s Consequence who continues to take jabs. “It’s just that he talks so loose. People don’t ever talk to me like that, never. Never. People don’t say those types of things to me. People don’t do that to me.”
Consequence was departing from his post at G.O.O.D. Music around the time that Pusha T was signed, which meant that they’ve previously spent time together in the studio. “Me and Cons have sat in the studio, we’ve worked on records together, there’s never been an issue,” Push said. “I’ve never had no issues with Consequence. It’s really out the blue, but at this point I really believe that it’s just a tactic to stay relevant and stay in the mix, you know? He wants a spin off. Maybe that’s what it is.”
“It’s music, it’s rap and I’m sure he’s trying to get a spinoff or whatever it is,” he added. “But I just gotta make fun of it. It’s a joke.”
Consequence currently appears on the third season of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop” along with his girlfriend Jen The Pen.

Rick Ross has been noticeably absent from social media in the days following an attempt on his life, but when the MMG CEO returned to Twitter on Thursday (January 31), he was back to business as usual.Rozay’s first move was retweeting his latest signee Rockie Fresh, who had simply shared the hashtag “#GodisGreat.” It’s clear that Ross is thankful that none of the two dozen or so bullets that were directed at his Rolls Royce early Monday morning actually connected. His second tweet was in promotion of Rebook Classics’ new Kamikaze II sneakers, which both he and DJ Khaled appear in ads for. “In stores Tomorrow!!” he wrote, along with an attached photo of the new red and black kicks.
While no one from Ross’ camp has given an official statement on the shooting incident, Pusha T told MTV News that he immediately reached out to check on his friend after hearing the news. “I don’t wanna hear about that with anybody. I definitely hit him up like, ‘Yo just let me know you’re OK,'” Push relayed, of his conversation with Rozay. “He was just like, ‘Yeah, he’s just layin’ back.’ That was enough for me,” Pusha said of the word he got back concerning Ross’ psyche after the shooting.
Ross had been celebrating his 37th birthday with friends like DJ Khaled, Diddy and French Montana at Club LIV in Miami on Sunday night, and later ate at the Floridian diner with his girlfriend in Fort Lauderdale. When the couple returned to their car around 5 a.m., several shots were fired in their direction, forcing them to crash into a nearby building.
After confirming that Ross was doing fine, Pusha T explained that it’s difficult for some artists to escape the lives they came from. “It’s tough out here as an artist and being in rap it’s like this is the only profession where you don’t really leave your core,” he said. “You don’t really leave your upbringing. You don’t really leave that behind; you stay in it lyrically and so on and so forth. So it’s like you can’t really get out of it, you can’t really get away from it. I don’t care how much money you have.”
Ross has reportedly increased his security detail since the unfortunate events of that morning.
